Are all living things made of cells?
Yes
Name the similarities between animal and plant cells
They both have:
- a Nucleus
- a Cytoplasm
- a Cell Membrane
What do only plants have
A cell wall
A vacuole
Chloroplasts
What is the function of a nucleus?
It controls what the cell does, it contains a complete set of instructions for the cell
What is the function of a cytoplasm?
It’s a jelly like substance where most chemical reactions happen
What is the function of a cell membrane?
It holds the Cytoplasm together and acts like a barrier, controlling what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the function of a cell wall?
A very strong layer on the outside of the cell membrane. It protects the cell and keeps it in shape. It prevents the cell from collapsing or bursting
What is the function of a Vacuole?
This contains a weak solution of sugar, salts and water called cell sap
What are the functions of a chloroplast?
These contain a green substance called Chlorophyll, which captures light energy and uses it to create food for the plant.
