Characteristics Of Living Things Flashcards
Name all of the Characteristics in order.
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Nutrition Excretion Reproduction Growth
Respiration?
The process when living cells release energy from food. In most organisms, oxygen is used to break down food.
Sensitivity?
The ability to detect changes in the surroundings and respond to them.
Movement?
The way in which organisms change their position in order to find food, escape from predators or find a mate.
Nutrition?
The need of food for repair, growth, respiration and reproduction. Plants make their own food using photosynthesis, whilst animals eat ready-made food.
Excretion?
The removal of waste products from the body (urine and carbon dioxide)
Reproduction?
The way in which new individuals are produced from parents.
Growth?
An increase in size. Involves the production and growth of new cells.
Give examples of living things:
Plants, animals and humans.
Give examples of non-living things
The Sun, water, rocks, unfertilised eggs
