Electricity Flashcards
What are the three main concepts in electricity and what are there units?
- Current (amps)
- Voltage (volts)
- Resistance (Oms)
Define Voltage
It’s what makes the current flow
Define Current
The rate of flow of charge
Define resistance
It’s what trys to prevent the current from flowing
In a uk plug, there are three types of wires, what are they called and what colours are they?
- Earth wire: Green and yellow
- Neutral wire: Blue
- Live wire: Brown
What is a fuse?
It protects the electrical circuit from damage due to excess current.
What does insulation do?
Insulation protects the user from being electrocuted
What does double insulation do and what does it not require?
Things that are double insulated require no earthing wire as it is enterly surrounded by insulation.
What do devices keep your house safe?
- Fuses in plugs
- Circuit breaker
What does a circuit breaker do?
Protects electrical circuit from damage due to excess current and can be reset
What are the two equations for power?
- P=IV
- P=E/t
