ELECTRICITY Flashcards
What is electricity ?
A form of energy that can involve the movement of charge
Define a conductor
Heat can be transmitted through it
Eg. Metal
Define an insulator
Heat cannot be transmitted through it
Eg. Wood, Rubber, Plastic
(Wendy,Runs,Perfectly)
Static electricity
A stationary electrical charge that builds up when two objects rub together
What do all electrical circuits require ?
Power,pathway and load
Pretty,Parrots,Lurk
Conventional current
POSITIVE
Moves in the same direction as the positive charge flows
Electron flow
NEGATIVE
moves in the same direction of negative charge
Current
Flow of electrical charge Measured in AMPS known as (i)
Voltage
A force expressed in volts
Measured in VOLTS
known as (v)
Resistance
The friction in an electrical circuit that controls the flow of the current
Measured in OHM
known as (R)
Series circuits
Current is the same through each part
Sum of the voltage across components is equal to the sum across the circuit
Parallel circuits
Two or more pathways
Voltage is the same across all
Sum of currents is equal to the total current flow
What is a voltmeter used to measure ?
Electrical charge between two points in an electrical circuit
How is a voltmeter connected in a circuit
Connected in parallel with a devise to measure its voltage
What is an ammeter used to measure ?
The current in a circuit
