Electricity Flashcards

1
Q

centralized generation of electricity

A

is centralized at a power plant and then is distributed thought high voltage power lines down to house. it steps up and steps down via transformers

3
Q

decentralized generation of electricty

A

neighborhood/bldng based. create on site and use. ie. net zero building.
the issues are theres no way to store excess

Q

what is the equation for watts?

A

volts x amps = watts
watts is power, you can manipulate volts and amps to get watts you need

volts is pressure of water
amps is size of pipe
watts is how fast you can fill the bucket with water

16
Q

series circuit

A

multiple loads on a circuit. current is constant but voltage changes. not used in building construction
Rtotal = R1 + R2 + R3

17
Q

parallel circuit

A

loads placed between 2 points. voltage remains same,, current is different.

1/Rtotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

18
Q

protection for elec circuits

A

groudning, ground-fault, arc-fault
