Electricity Flashcards
Ion
A positively or negatively charged atom
Static Charge
An imbalance of electrical charge
Electrical Force
The attraction or repulsion between electric forces
Electric Field
A region around a charged object where the object’s force is exerted on other charged objects
Insulator
A material in which electrons CAN NOT move easily from place to place
Conductor
A material in which electrons CAN move easily from place to place
Electrical Discharge
The rapid movement of excess electrons from one place to another
Electric Current
The continuous flow of electric charges through a material
Electric Circuit
A complete, unbroken path through which electric currents can flow
Voltage
A measure of how much electrical potential energy an electron can gain
Unit is Volt (V)
Resistance
The measure of how difficult it is for electrons to flow through a material
Ohm’s Law
Voltage = Current x Resistance
Series Circuit
A circuit where there is only path for the current to take
Parallel Circuit
A circuit where the current has more than one path to take
Electric Power
Power = Voltage x Current
