Electricity Flashcards
Electric current
The flow of charge carriers
Potential Difference
Energy transfered per unit charge
Power
work done per unit time
Resistance
The ratio of the voltage across the component and current flwoing through it
Ohm’s law
A conductor obeys the law if the current in it is directly proportional to the p.d across it.
E.M.F
Energy transfered per unit charge in driving charge around the whole circuit
Distinguish between emf and pd
P.D is when electrical energy is being converted into other forms of energy. E.M.F is when one other forms of energy is being converted into electrical energy
P. D is energy for part of the circuit while E.M.F is energy for the whole circuit
Kirchoff’s 1st law
The sums of the current entering the junction is =to the sum of the current leaving the junction
Conservation of charge
Charge cannot be created or destroyed but only transffered from one point to another
