Electricity Flashcards
What is electromotive force?
It is the work done by a source driving a unit charge round a complete circuit.
What is electricity?
It is the flow of electric charges.
What is electric current?
It is the rate of flow of electric charges.
What is potential difference?
It is the amount of energy needed to drive an electric circuit across 2 points.
What is resistance?
It is the opposition to the flow of electric charges in the circuit.
What is the 2 types of resistance?
Rheostat and fixed resistors.
Are current the same everywhere in series circuit?
yes
What is the SI unit for resistance?
Ω
Higher resistance = lower current. Agree?
Yes
Formula for resistance in series.
R(total) = R1+R2+…..
Formula for resistance in parallel.
1/R(total) = 1/R1 +1/R2 + 1/R3... [1/R?]-1 = R total
Total resistance is the same as effective resistance. Agree?
Yes.
Higher voltage = higher resistance in series. Agree?
Yes, if current is constant.
How to find voltage in parallel series circuit?
Take the sum of potential difference.
Is voltage the same everywhere in parallel circuit?
yes
