Electrical Stimulation Flashcards
What are the contraindications for Electrical Stimulation?
- Pacemaker or electrical device
- Unstable Cardiac arrhythmia
- Over the carotid sinus
- Over acute venous or arterial thrombi
- Over low back or abdomen of pregnant people
What is a cathode?
Negative portion of the electric circuit
What is an Anode
The positive pole
What are some of the tissue effects when using electrical stimulation?
- Electrochemical
- Electrothermal
- Electrophysical
As the result of electrochemical reactions, where do Acids develop?
Under the Anode
As the result of electrochemical reactions, where do Bases develop?
Cathodes
What is orthodromic conduction?
conducting impulses in the normal or correct direction.
What is Antidromic conduction?
conduction opposite of the normal (orthodromic) direction
What is the rule of thumb for the distance between electrodes for ESTEM?
Electrodes should be at least half the width of the electrode apart.
