Electrical circuit Flashcards
What does an electrical circuit need?
Power / Battery/ Conducting wires/ Resistors/ Switch
What is a circuit?
A circuit is a closed loop that carries electricity
What is an electric current?
- The flow and movement of electrons in a circuit.
- Protons move in the opposite direction to electrons
- An electrical charge is measured in coulombs
i represent?
Electricals current
Voltage?
This is a measure of the amount of energy the battery gives to a circuit.
What is the unit for Voltage
V
What is a Resistor?
A resistor opposes current flow in a circuit
what is DC?
Constant current flow
What is AC?
Alternating current - Current moves back and forth
what is an Electrical charge?
electric charge is carried by the electrons and protons within an atom. Electrons are said to carry a negative charge, while protons are said to carry a positive charge
What is a conductor?
Substances that can easily transfer electric charge
What is an insulator?
Substances that do not carry an electrical charge
What is coulomb law?
A formula that could predict the force of electrostatic force of attraction or repel
How is an electrical current measured?
An electrical current of the closed-circuit is measured using a device called an ammeter. Ammeters have to be connected in series directly into the circuit.
What is Energy (E) measured in?
Energy is measured in joules
How is voltage related to electrical energy?
Voltage is the measure of energy pair unit charge
Energy per Coulomb of charge is = 1volt
( water running through pipe) What represents the voltage in this situation?
The amount of water pressure pushing the water through the pipe. The units could be PSI or Pascals
Water model
Electrical charge is the water being pumped through a pipe system.
Water can not be compressed just like an electric current
Bicycle Model
Paddles are like the batteries of an electric charge
- Power in the feet is like the voltage
-electric effects are nearly instantaneous NO DELAY
a charge can not be used up or consumed
Examples of DC
Batteries
Example of AC
Fans and house power socket
How is static electricity produced?
Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between negative and positive charges in an object
How are energy and current caused?
The flow of electrons
How is the charge measured?
An electrical charge is measured in coulombs Qc
What is static electricity?
The charge can only be transferred
Static electricity is the build-up of charges on a surface
Unit for time
time is measured in seconds
Potential difference,
Electromotive force,
Potential drop
Voltage
