Electrical and I&C Engineering & Equipment Flashcards
What does “ETAP” stand for, and what is an ETAP Model?
Electrical Transient Analyzer Program
ETAP is an electrical network modeling and simulation software tool used by power systems engineers to create an “electrical digital twin” and analyze electrical power system dynamics, transients and protection.
What does PLC stand for?
Programmable Logic Controller.
It is used in power plants to automate and monitor various processes, like turbine operations, boiler controls, and generator management, by reading input signals from sensors and adjusting output controls based on pre-programmed logic, essentially acting as the “brain” of the power plant’s automation system.
What is RGS conduit?
RGS stands for Rigid Galvanized Steel, which is a type of thick-walled, threaded tubing used to protect and route electrical wires.
What is RMC conduit?
RMC stands for Rigid Metal Conduit. It is a type of thick-walled, threaded tubing used to protect and route electrical wiring. It is usually made of coated steel, stainless steel, or aluminum.
What is GRC conduit?
GRC stands for Galvanized Rigid Conduit, which is a thick-walled, threaded steel tube used for electrical conductors and cables. It is made of galvanized steel.

What is this device called?
Amp Clamp
What does GFCI stand for, and what is it?
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is an electrical safety device designed to quickly cut off power to a circuit when it detects a ground fault, which is an imbalance in current flow, potentially caused by electricity leaking to a grounded object like a person, thus preventing severe electrical shock or electrocution; essentially, it acts as a fast-acting circuit breaker that trips when it senses an abnormal current flow to ground.

A DIP shunt
A(n) ____________ is a highly reliable, low cost means of manually programming various types of electrical/electronic equipment. Its straps can be retained intact for a closed circuit or broken with a hand tool to produce an open circuit. IT features one-piece construction for high reliability.

Motor windings
________________ are coils of insulated wire, typically copper or aluminum, arranged within an electric motor to create a magnetic field that drives the rotation of the rotor.

If a new conduit or duct bank is going to penetrate an existing electrical vault or manhole, what’s the first thing you should think of?
Can an x-ray be done of the manhole wall to know the location of the rebar?
What is circled in this picture and what is its purpose?
Grounding Rings. A grounding ring is a conductive ring, often used around a motor shaft or pipe, that provides a safe, low-impedance path to ground for electrical currents, protecting bearings from damage. As in this photo, they also help to ensure accurate readings in instruments like flow meters.
