Electric transmission Flashcards
1
Q
how are messages transmitted through the nervous system
A
- electrical transmission down presynaptic neuron
- converted into chemical transmission across synapse
- converted back to electrical transmission down post synaptic neuron/ pass down axon
2
Q
full explaination of electrical transmission
A
- messages sent electrically in neurons
- when neurons are in resting state, inside cell is negatively charged compared to outside
- when neuron is activated by stimulus, inside cell is positively charged for split second causing action potential to occurr
- eletrical impulse travels down axon to axon terminal
3
Q
what is action potential
A
short lasting event that triggers start of electrical impulse which travels down neuron
