Electric Fields Flashcards
What is electric field strength?
The force experienced per positive unit charge at a point.
In an electric field pattern, what direction do the arrows point?
Away from the positive and towards the negative.
What is Coulomb’s Law?
Two point charges will exert a force on each other that is directly proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
What is electrical potential energy?
Energy that is stored when two like charges are pushed together, as they will move apart when a force is no longer applied.
What is electric potential?
The work done per unit charge in bringing a positive charge from infinity to a point.
How is an isolated, charged sphere a capacitor?
The charge is stored because it cannot escape anywhere.
What is an equipotential line?
A line along which electric potential is the same, like a contour on a map.
