Charge and Current Flashcards
What is current?
The rate of flow of charge.
What is the net charge on an object?
The number of charge carriers x the charge on an electron.
What direction does conventional current flow?
Positive to negative.
What is the direction of electron flow?
Negative to positive.
What circuit component is used to measure current and how is it placed in a circuit?
The ammeter measures current and it is placed in series.
What is Kirchoff’s first law?
The sum of the currents into a point = the sum of the currents out of a point.
What is the number density of a material?
The number of free electrons per cubic metre.
How is mean drift velocity proportional to cross sectional area?
It is inversely proportional, due to the fact that current must remain constant.
What is the resistance of the ideal ammeter?
0, so that it does not effect the current flowing through it.
