Electric fields Flashcards
Coulomb’s law
Coulomb’s inverse-square law of physics calculates the amount of force between two electrically charged particles at rest
Permittivity of free space
A physical constant that reflects the ability of electrical fields to pass through a classical vacuum
Electric field strength
A quantitative expression of the intensity of an electric field at a particular location
Field strength = voltage drop ÷ distance between the plates
Radial field
lines that radiate into a point or out the point. they weaken the further out they go and are stronger towards the centre point
Uniform field
A field in which the value of the field strength is the same at all points
Electric potential
The amount of work needed to move a unit charge from a reference point to a specific point against an electric field
Electric potential difference
The voltage between two points that makes an electric current flow between them
