Electric Field Flashcards
What is the Coulomb’s Law?
Coulomb’s law states that the magnitude of the electric force F, between two point charges Q and q is proportional to their charges and inversely proportional to the square of their separation r.
What is an Electric Field?
An electric field is a region of space in which a charge placed in that region experiences an electric force.
Define Electric Field Strength.
The electric field strength at a point is defined as the electric force exerted per unit positive charge acting on a test charge placed at that point.
What is the point at infinity?
The point at infinity is defined to have zero electric potential energy and zero electric potential.
What is the electron-volt (eV)?
The electron volt is a convenient energy unit where the energy gain by the particle is small.
Define Electric Potential at a point.
The electric potential at a point in an electric field defined as the work done per unit positive charge in bringing a small test charge from infinity to that point by an external agent.
What is an Uniform Electric Field?
It is a region within which the electric field strength at any point has the same magnitude and direction, the electric field lines are parallel and equally spaced, and directed from higher to lower potential.
