NUTRITIONAL needs:

- Less physical activity = less energy needed
- MORE PROTEIN FOR WOMEN
- LESS PROTEIN FOR MEN
- Calcium for bone health
- Zinc for ulcers/sores & prevention dementia
- More fat if frail

PROBLEMS that may occur for the elderly:
A
- Lack of FOLATE & VIT C due to hard to prepare fruit and vegetables
- Lack of VIT D & therefor CALCIUM if housebound (lack of sunlight)
- ANAEMIA can occur because of blood loss or poor absorption of IRON from a diet lacking in VIT C
- Reduced gut mobility = CONSTIPATION
- DEHYDRATION may occur

DIETARY needs:
A
- Base meals on starchy carbs
- Oily fish to reduce THROMBOSIS
- Fruit & veg full of antioxidants to take care of Blood pressure & free radicals
- Eat IRON at the same time as VIT C to help absoprtion
- Calcium rich foods
- Frozen ready meals
- Tinned foods & stocked cupboards
