Elbow/Wrist/Hand trauma Flashcards
MC elbow fx in child + adult
child- supracondylar fx
Adult- Radial head fx
supracondylar fx presentation
- mc fx around elbow in kids
- distal frag will displace post usually
Intracondylar distal humerus fx- presentation + how common
-T or Y shape that extends into articular surface
=50% of distal fxs in adults
Condylar fx of humerus
angular forces sheer off condyle
–oftern extends into the articular surface
Ant humeral line and what is it used for
lat view
-ant border of humerus and must go thru middle 1/3 of capitulum, used for supracondylar fxs
3 main complications of humeral fxs
- malunion
- ishemic contracture (due to occlusion of brachial a)
- Damage to ulnar n
Types of radial head fxs
-usually will have fat pad sign
- chisel- line thru articulation down, incomplete
- simple
Radial neck fx presention
impaction mc type
-will not get a sharp line but rather a sharp angulation
Nightstick fx
Transverse ulnar shaft mid diaphysis
Monteggia fx
(GRIMUS)
Prox ulnar shaft with associated ant dislocation of prox radius
Galeazzi fx
(GRIMUS)
radial fx at distal with dislocation of distal radioulnar jt
Nursemaids elbow
-dislocation, radial head slips out of annular lig
mc in 2-5yoa kids
Colles vs smiths fx
colles- outstretched hand, distal overrides prox, dinner fork deformity
smith- hyperflexed hand
Bartons fx
post rim fx (intraarticular) or radius
Chauffers fx
- intraarticular fx of the radial styloid process
- relatively unstable
