Varus stress test: procedure
- Patient is supine
- Patient elbow 20deg flex
- Shotgun position
- Apply gentle and progressive varus force
Varus stress test: purpose
Integrity of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
Varus stress test: SPEC/SENS
SENS: 100%
SPEC: 75%
Varus stress test: +ve -ve tests
+ laxity
+ soft end feel
+/- P
- no laxity
Valgus stress test: procedure
- Patient in supine
- Patient elbow 20deg flex
- Shotgun position
- Apply gently and progressive valgus force
Valgus stress test: purpose
Integrity of the medial collateral ligament (MCL)
Valgus stress test: SPEC/SENS
SENS: 100%
SPEC: 75%
Valgus stress test: +ve -ve tests
+ laxity
+ soft end feel
+/- P
- no laxity
Cozen’s test: procedure
- Patient in seated with forearm on plinth
- Position in slight elbow flex and wrist in pronation and RD
- Apply gently and progressive inferior force to hand

Lateral epicondylitis “tennis elbow”

SENS: 78 - 83%
SPEC: 80 - 90%
Cozen’s test: +ve -ve tests
+ P of elbow ext

- Patient in seated with forearm on plinth
- Position in slight elbow flex and wrist PRON finger EXT
- Apply gentle and progressive inferior force to DIP 3rd phalanx
