Elbow Flashcards
What are the main ligaments of the elbow?
- annular ligament
- Ulnar Collateral Ligament
- Radial Collateral Ligament
Which side are wrist extensors on? Wrist flexors?
Wrist extensors— posterior side wrist flexors—anterior side
What “carrying angle” is typical of males and females?
Males: 5-10 Females: 10-15 Greater angle=cubitus valgus less angle= cubitus varus
What injury comes as a result of repetitive forceful resistance, with constant dull aches in the forearms
Forearm splints
Olecranon Bursitis
MOI: direct blow SS: Pain and severe swelling Management: ice, compression, aspiration
What injury is caused by repeated forceful extension and supination of the wrist, and aches at the lateral epicondyle, gradually weakens the wrist muscles.
Lateral Epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
What injury is caused by repetitive forced wrist flexion… (pain w/ flexion movements around epicondyle radiating pain to fingers
Medial epicondylitis treatment: police, nsaids, ultrasound, counterforce strap
UCL sprain (tear)
MOI: hard throwing, lots of stress SS: extreme pain on medial side of elbow Manage: RICES, NSAIDS, stabilize, Tommy John’s surgery
What is this test called?
Milker’s sign
implication: UCL sprain/ tear
Osteochondritis dissecans (elbow)
if younger than 10 years old, called Panner’s disease
usually in patient’s ages 10-15 involved in raquet sports
MOI: unknown, microtrauma, impairment to blood supply
SS: pain, locking, decreased ROM
Management: Rest, NSAIDS, splinting surgery
