elbow Flashcards
where is the cubital tunnel located?
btw the medial epicondyle and the olecranon of the ulna
where is the cubital fossa located?
anterior to the tunnel btw the humeral epicondyles
what is located in the cubital fossa?
palpable= brachial artery and biceps tendon non-palpable= median and musculocutaneous nerves
which nerve may be compressed at the heads of the pronator teres muscles and will demonstrate a pinch deformity?
anterior interosseous nerve, branch of median- pinch test
what nerve can be compressed at the ligament of struthers located superior to the cubital fossa?
median nerve
which nerve can be compressed as it passes btw the 2 heads of the supinator, called the canal of Frohse?
posterior interosseous nerve, branch of radial- can mimic tennis elbow
what does the elbow flexion test test for?
cubital tunnel syndrome
what is a + elbow flexion test?
tingling or paresthesia in the ulnar distribution of the forearm and hand- cubital tunnel syndrome
what is the purpose of tinel’s test at the elbow?
test for neuritis or neuroma of the ulnar and radial nerves
what is the function of tinel’s test at the elbow?
irritate the ulnar or radial nerve; hypersensitivity=damage
what is the purpose of cozen’s test?
evaluate the extensors of the wrists and evaluate for possible lateral epicondylitis
what is a + cozen’s sign?
acute lacinating pain to the lateral epicondyle
what is the purpose of golfer’s elbow test?
evaluate flexors of the wrist and identify possible medial epicondylitis
what is a + golfer’s elbow test?
pain over medial epicondyle- medial epicondylitis
what is the purpose of the lift test?
evaluate both flexors and extensors of the wrists for possible lateral and/or medial epicondylitis
