A

single episode of hypo/mania despite not being depressed yet

the first episode of hypo/mania with a background of recurrent depression

What is the criteria for hypomania?

A

mood is elated to a degree that is abnormal and sustained for 4 consecutive days
or
at least 3 signs:
- increased activity, increased sexual energy, increased talkativeness, decreased concentration and need for sleep

What is the criteria for mania?

A

mood must be elated and must be sustained for 1 week
or
at least 3 signs: - increased activity, increased sexual energy, increased talkativeness, decreased concentration and need for sleep, flight of ideas etc.

A

absence of hallucinations or delusions although perceptual disorders may occur

e.g. grandiose, self-referential or persecutory in content
