A section in a literary piece that interrupts the sequence of events

An authors use of hints or clues on what may happen next
Ex. Tom was not a strong swimmer in spite of regarding he undertow he jumped into the ocean anyway
Free Verse
Poetry that has no formal rhymes

Hyperbole
Use of extreme exaggeration

Idiom
A word or phrase that means something different from what is says
EX. Break a leg means good luck
Imagery
Words or phrases that appeal to one or more of the five senses
Ex. My legs were on fire, as I kept running the race
Metaphor
A figure of speech without using like or as

The close placement of words that have near opposite meanings to create a unique desccription

A compariosn between two things using like or as

A group of lines in a poem
Internal Rhyme
Two or more words that rhyme within the same line of poetry

Words whose sounds suggest their meanings
Ex. Buzz, swoosh, oink, roar
