What is Dramatic Irony?
When the reader/viewer knows something the character doesn’t
What is Situational Irony?
The irony of something happening that is very different to what was expected
What is Man vs. Man conflict?
When one character has beef with another character
What is Man vs. Self conflict?
When a character has doubts/issues within themselves
What is Man vs. Society conflict?
When a character has beef or fights with a large group of people
What is Man vs. Nature conflict?
When a character faces troubles with anything involving nature (weather, setting, etc)
What are Symbol Motifs?
When something in the story is referring to something else in the story
What is Direct Characterization?
When a narrator directly states a trait of a character
What is Indirect Characterization?
When a narrator subtly mentions a trait of a character
What is Third Person Limited?
Written from the character’s perspective only
What is Third Person Omniscient?
When you get a perspective of multiple different characters
What is Alliteration?
Use of the same letters (Don’t Destroy David’s Dock, all Ds)
What is an Allusion?
A reference to something outside the story
What is a Metaphor?
A figure of speech comparing two different things WITHOUT using “like” or “as”
What is Personification?
Giving human characteristics to something that is not human
