EKG Tutorial Module DSA Flashcards
Each small box in an EKG makes up how many seconds?
Dark line to dark line (5 boxes) on an EKG makes up how many seconds?
1) 0.04 seconds
2) 0.2 seconds
What does the P wave represent?
Atrial depolarization
What does the PR segment represent?
Atrial repolarization
What is the normal time in seconds for the PR interval?
Less than 0.2 seconds
What does the QRS interval represent?
Ventricular depolarization
What is the normal time in seconds for the QRS interval?
Less than 0.12 seconds
What does the T wave represent?
Ventricular repolarization
The U wave is a lot more noticeable under what condition?
Hypokalemia
What HR defines tachycardia?
Bradycardia?
1) Greater than 100 BPM
2) Less than 60 BPM
How do you calculate rate on an EKG?
Find a r-wave that aligns on a dark line and count to the next r-wave: 1st ‘dark line’ = 300; next line = 150; then 100; then 75; then 60; then anything else past that is bradycardia
What is a normal axis characterized by on EKG?
Positive deflection in leads I & aVF
What is a left axis characterized by on EKG?
Positive deflection in lead I and negative in aVF
What is a right axis characterized by on EKG?
Negative deflection in lead I and negative in aVF
