What is the reason for the therapist bringing up SEU?
the therapist recognizes there is a maladaptive secondary emotional response, and they try to make sense of it
what do we do after we understand the situation in SEU?
We broaden the phenomenon in the person’s life. We look for deeper issues. We use this as a springboard to look into the deeper trigger
In the two-chair work, what does Dr A look for in the “critic” or the “top-dog”?
biting, hurtful, accusatory, “you” statements
In the two-chair work, what is the purpose?
to soften the topdog and toughen up the underdog
What does a real self-critic do?
- From the topdog position, pointing fingers. body language showing disgust.
- Does not talkback from the underdog. Underdog is too tough
A goal from open-chair, that takes on two forms?
Perspective. Either compassion lens or recognizing what a shitty person they are.
Underdog is like what? Topdog?
Underdog is like a child. Topdog is a parent.
