Q

Mechanical

A
  • Aim to restore joint mobility to normal ROM
  • Following injury and immobilisation, soft tissues can become shortened and limit overall joint mobility
  • Increases the flexibility and mobility of ligaments and tendons

Q

Neurophysiological

A
  • Especially when mobilising the spine region as spinal tissues are so highly innervated and provide large degree of afferent input into the CVS
  • Stimulates mechanoreceptors to decrease pain and reduce muscle spasm and guarding due to nociceptive stimulation

Q

Nutritional

A

Distraction or small gliding movements – cause synovial fluid movement– Movement can improve nutrient exchange from joint swelling & immobilisation
