-Introduced after seeing success in East Asia
-Government believed previous modular exams were too easy and too many students were achieving top grades
-Exams being more challenging means fewer students get top grades making it easier for universities to identify the best students
Changing needs of the economy: Technology
-Workers now need to be able to use technology and adapt their skills at a much faster rate
-There are more ICT jobs so children need to learn computer skills e.g spreadsheets
Changing needs of the economy: Access
-Access to the internet and computers for poorer students is becoming even more important
-Disadvantaging them if they don’t have access
More migrants settling in the UK: Rise in EAL
-More EAL students in schools so they need to train staff in how to teach EAL, recruit translators, and language teachers

Students get to learn first hand about other cultures and lifestyles, embracing different cultures and practices
