In general, Black African and Carribbeans girls are ambitious and determined to succeed, however, they tend to not identify with their teachers. Due to open racism of a minority of teachers and unhelpful support offered in response to their girls ethnicity.

Students are educated in school, not the home, meaning that culture and external factors cannot be blamed for the underachievement of black males.

British-Indian families place a great value on their children’s education. They push their children to have high ambitions. Reflected in achievements.

Cultural factors are important in explaining the success of British-Chinese students. Educational success is part of their identity , and parents took a stronger role in developing children academic successes. Invested time and money into education even when they had little money to spare.

Found that students with family in Pakistan are likely to take longer holidays and religious commitments. Leads to students missing course content and teachers presuming that they aren’t focused on their education.

Many ethnic minority parents face language barriers which can have a negative effect on their children’s educational attainment, e.g. can’t help them with homework. e.g. 3/5 of Bangladeshi women don’t speak English.
