Marxism
a political, social, and economic philosophy derived from the work of Karl Marx. It views society as a struggle between social classes and asserts that capitalism is inherently exploitative of the W/C
False class consciousness
designate the way in which material, ideological, and instrumental processes in capitalism society mislead members of the proletariat and other classes.
Habitus
refers to the physical embodiment of cultural capital, to deeply ingrained habits, skills, and dispositions that we possess due to our life experiences.
cultural capital
consists of the social assets of a person that promote social stability in a stratified society. e.g. education, style of speech, dress sense etc.
Hegemony
the dominance in society of the ruling class’s set of ideas over others, and acceptance of and consent to them by the rest of society.
policy
a course or principle of action adopted or proposed by an organization or individual.
micro level
involves the study of people at a more interpersonal level, as in face-to-face interactions.
Labelling theory
how the self-identity and behavior of individuals may be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them. It is associated with the concepts of self-fulfilling prophecy and stereotyping.

Learning to labour’
the informal, creative, counter-school culture of the lads is vital to understanding the reproduction of class structure. They use culture to explain and interpret the structures of schooling and work that enfold them, but doing so also steers them into social reproduction.
Individualised
being a person separate from other people and possessing his or her own needs or goals, rights and responsibilities.
Globalization
ongoing process that involves interconnected changes in the economic, cultural, social, and political spheres of society. As a process, it involves the ever-increasing integration of these aspects between nations, regions, communities, and even seemingly isolated places.
PISA
Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a collaborative effort among the Member countries of the OECD to measure how well young adults, at age 15 and therefore approaching the end of compulsory schooling, are prepared to meet the challenges of today’s knowledge societies.
Feminism
conflict theory and theoretical perspective which observes gender in its relation to power, both at the level of face-to-face interaction and reflexivity within a social structure at large

is a social system in which males hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property
