To read, write, and do basic maths. (And to obey the patriarchy as well, but they didn’t have patriarchy lessons, it was more like they were institutionally oppressed.) Also learnt how to spin thread, weave, and cook.

So that they could manage the household.

Their mother, so skill level varied.
