why were there so few educational opportunities in the 1819-1967
most of the migrants came to work, they did not want to settle down, the wanted to work, earn money and leave. the government did not have enuf money
who was in charge of sg education
the government left it to those who were concerned. eg missionaries, rich traders who could afford to build and fund schools.
after 1867 what happened
it became necessary to provide english education t create a supply of english speaking clerks.
due to the governments lack of interference in the education of sg, what happened
it lead to the growth of many chinese speaking schools run by chinese communties. schools made by the missionaries had a free hand in how they were run.
who provided education for Singapores different races
for the chinese, wealthey chinese traders usually set up schools that taught in chinese, however there was no english. some malay schools were built by wealthy individuals in the early 20th century.
