- can’t distinguish subtle sound differences ie. Blue, ball, or can’t distinguish different voices in a room
- visual teaching methods ie. Role playing, demonstration

- speak normal, don’t over articulate
- get their attention by touching them before speaking

- do not touch person unless if they know you are going to
- use other senses.. Touch is huge
- allow them to touch equipment, manipulate, feel pills
What is expressive aphasia
- knows what to say, but cannot find the right words
What is receptive aphasia
- unable to understand meaning of words
- lack of of comprehension
- produce words that don’t make sense
Global aphasia
- lose both comprehension and expression
Anomic aphasia
- least severe
- difficulty using correct names for things

- point to objects for common needs
- use exaggerated expressions and hand movements ie. Grimace when asking for pain medication
