ECS Flashcards
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL SYSTEM (ECS)
ECS provides crew station ventilation, heating, and air conditioning.
Cooling air is always supplied to the EFABs and the PNVS/TADS turret.
The mixing of heated air only happens for the crew stations when operating in the heating mode
ECS Normal Operation
Environmental cooling is provided by two independently operated Vapor Cycle Cooling Systems (VCCS). Crew station heating uses bleed air from the main engines or APU via the IPAS. ECS control is performed by the Digital Control Unit (DCU).
Where does ECS get its air from?
Crew station heating uses bleed air from the main engines or APU via the IPAS. ECS control is performed by the Digital Control Unit (DCU).
What could happen when you operate with all the gaspers f illy close?
Operating with all gaspers closed may cause the blower to overheat and shutdown.
ECS Controls and Displays
Controls and dis-plays required to manage the ECS are provided on the A/C UTIL page and the SYS page.
ECS Button (B5). The ECS button toggles the ECS between on and off. Upon aircraft power up, the ECS defaults on.
Crew Station Backup Cooling
During most ECS failure modes, the EFAB and crew station blowers will continue to circulate air to each compartment, and the Air Particle Separator (APS) will provide ambient air to the crew stations.
ECS FAILURE
Failures of the forward and aft ECS systems are usually temporary and the blowers continue to operate. Failure of the ECS control is usually permanent and the blowers may be disabled. The ECS FAIL caution will display on the EUFD as a result of any ECS failure.
