Ecosystems and Food Webs Flashcards
What does a typical food chain look like?
Producer - Primary Consumer - Secondary Consumer - Tertiary Consumer
What is a food chain?
A simplistic way of understanding ecological relationships.
What are food webs?
Allow ecologists to attempt to map many more feeding interactions.
Many food chains are within one food web
What is a habitat?
Part of an ecosystem where a species can thrive with the capability of reproducing and finding food for survival.
What is a population?
A group of individuals of the same species living in the same habitat.
What is interdependence?
Different populations of species relying on each other for resources.
What is a community?
A group of populations of different species living and interacting in a particular habitats.
What is an ecosystem?
All the organisms that live and depend on one another for biotic resources in an abiotic environment.
What is abundance?
A measure of how common something is in an area (eg: population size)
How can you calculate an estimate for the population size using a quadrat?
population size= number total size of area
of organisms x ——————————
in all quadrats total area of quadrat
