Q

Why is high biodiversity important?

A

It makes sure that ecosystems are stable because different species depend on each other for thing like food and shelter. Different species also help to maintain the physical environment for each other.

Q

Name the Abiotic factors which affect communites

A

1) Environmental changes
2) Toxic chemicals - Chemical pesticides or fertilisers. Excess fertilisers released into lakes and ponds cause eutrophication which leads to death of organisms (fish).

Q

Name Biotic factors which affect communites

A

1) Availability of food - In a bumper uear for berries, population of blackbirds might increase because there’s enough food for them all, therefore they’re more likely to survive + reproduce.

2) Number of predators - If number of lions decrease, number of gazelles might increase since fewer lions to eat them.

3) Competition - Organisms compete with other species for the same resources. Animals compete for things like spcae, shelter, food, water and mates. Plants compete for things likle light, space, water and minerals from the soil.
