Ecosystems Flashcards
Biodiversity
Range of different species in an area. The greater the number of different species, the higher the biodiversity will be.
Biotic and Abiotic
Can affect the biodiversity in an ecosystem.
Biotic Factors
Living factors - Disease, Food availability, Grazing, Predation
Abiotic Factors
Non-Living factors - pH, Light intensity, Temperature
What can decrease biodiversity?
Pollution and habitat destruction.
Biomes
Regions of the planet distinguished by their flora, fauna and climate.
Ecosystem
consists of all living and non-living components interacting in an area.
Habitat
a place where an organism lives
Population
Group of organisms of the same type in an area.
Community
All the populations in an area.
Niche
The role played by an organism within the community.
What will animals compete for?
food, mates, habitat
What will plants compete for?
Light, water, nutrients
Interspecific competition
different species
Intraspecific competition
same species
