Ecosystems Flashcards
Ecology
the study of the interactions of organisms with their physical environment and with other organisms.
Ecosystem
an area where Biotic and Abiotic factors interact with each other
Biomes
Biomes are regions of the world with similar climate, animals and plants.
Terrestrial ecosystems
The distribution of terrestrial environments such as tundras, deserts, open forests and temperate grasslands
Aquatic ecosystems
Aquatic environments include both marine (saltwater) and freshwater environments
Climate
the atmospheric weather of an area, measured and averaged over a long period of time
Humus
Decomposition of plant and animal debris. The rate of decomposition is a limiting factor for forest growth
Substrate
supporting surface on which an organism such as a plant grows.
Soil Type
location, depth, texture, colour porosity, pH, water-carrying capacity and nutrient status
Things used to classify Terrestrial environments
Climate, Humus, Substrate and Soil Type
Names of all the zones under water
photic, mesopelagic, bathypalegic, abyssopelagic and hadalpelagic zones
