Ecosystem Organization Flashcards
Ecosystem
all of the organisms living in an area together with their physical environment
Biotic Factors
living or were once part of a living thing
Examples of Biotic Factors
animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, dead organisms, dead parts of organisms, decaying organisms, waste products
Abiotic Factors
non-living things
Examples of abiotic factors
air, temperature, light, water, minerals, weather, rocks, and sand
Organism
an individual living thing; have a role and interact in ecosystems; a species is a group of organisms that can mate to produce fertile offspring
Population
a group of the same species living in the same place; location matters
Community
a group of various species that live in the same place and interact with each other
Ecosystem
combination of biotic and abiotic factors
Biome
an area of the planet that can be classified according to the plants and animals that live in it; temp, soil, and amount of light and water help determine what life exists in the biome; a specific geographic area notable for the species living there; a biome can be made up of different ecosystems
Biospheres
part of the earth’s crust, waters, and atmosphere that supports life
