Ecology Unit Flashcards
Examples of abiotic factors
air, temp, water, rocks, sand
Examples of biotic factors
animals, plants, bacteria, waste products
Levels of ecological organization (smallest to largest)
organism, species, population, community, ecosystem, biomes, biosphere
Difference between a food chain to a food web
food chain- one path of energy transfer
food web- multiple interconnected paths of energy transfers
What information can be found in an energy pyramid?
find which organism has the least and most amount of energy stored
How is energy transferred through an ecosystem?
through eaten organisms
Difference between primary and secondary succession; example of each?
Primary- regrowth begins on bare rock (formation of volcanoes)
Secondary- regrowth begins on soil/dirt (forest fires)
Role of pioneer species? Examples?
begin the process of primary succession (lichens like fungi and algae)
