Who are Ecologists?

A

Ecologists study the make-up of biological communities and ecosystems. They look at how living and non-living factors affect the abundance and distribution of organisms

What is a quadrat?

A

The simplest way to count the number of organisms is to use a sample area called a quadrat. It is a square frame laid on the ground to outline our sample area. People refer to these frames as quadrats too

Why do Ecologists use Quadrants and Transects?

A

They are used for a range of experimental methods using transects and quadrats is used by ecologists to determine the distribution and abundance of species in an ecosystem

A

A transect is usually used to investigate a gradual change in a habitat rather than to simply estimate the number of organisms within it.
