Ecology Flashcards
Habitat
The part of an
ecosystem where an
organism lives.
Species
This is a group of
organisms that can
breed together to produce fertile offspring.
Population
This is the organisms of
the same species that
share a particular
habitat.
Community
This is made up of all the
organisms that share a
particular habitat.
Competition
A word that describes
the fact that organisms
often need the same recourses.
Interdependent
A word that describes
how organisms rely on
and impact upon each
other.
Biotic factors
Living things that can effect a population.
Abiotic factors
Non- living things that can effect a population.
How do carnivores compete to get food?
Carnivores can fight to get food or have better hunting adaptations.
How do herbivores resist competing for food?
Herbivores are less likely to compete food if they eat a wider range of food.
How do preys compete?
Preys compete by avoiding getting eaten by predators in different ways.
How do animals compete for mates?
They either fight or produce grand displays.
How to plants compete for growth?
They grow taller, wider or have better root systems.
How do plants disperse seeds?
They rely on the wind and water to carry the seeds away.
What is structural adaptation?
An adaptation related to physical structure eg. Size, colour.
