What is the difference between an abiotic factor and a biotic factor?
The living things in an ecosystem are called biotic factors, the non-living features are called abiotic factors.
Define ecology.
The branch of biology dealing with the relations and interactions between organisms and their environment, including other organisms.
What is another word for living things in an ecosystem?
Organisms
List 3 examples of both biotic and abiotic factors.
Biotic: -Spider -Starfish -Lion Abiotic: -Temperature -Soil Type -Amount of Light
What is the place where a particular organism lives called?
It’s habitat.
What is the difference between the distribution and abundance of a species?
The distribution tells us where it is found.
The abundance tells us how many of the species live in a particular area.
What are producers?
Usually plants, a producer creates it’s food using the sun’s energy. Producers are eaten by other animals.
What are animals that eat the left overs of dead animals/plants called?
Scavengers
What happens in photosynthesis?
Plants use the suns energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars and oxygen.
What are animals called in the food chain?
Consumers
What are herbivores?
Animals that only feed on plants, they are also first order consumers.
What do you call animals that feed only off other animals?
Carnivores
Do omnivores eat plants, other animals or both?
Both
What is the order of a food chain?
Producer
First-Order Consumer
Second-Order Consumer
Third-Order Consumer
What do you call an animal that hunts another animal?
A Predator
