What is an ecosystem?
The interaction of a community of living organisms with the non-living parts of their enviroment
What do plants compete for?
Light, space, water and mineral ions
What do animals compete for?
Food, mates and territory
What is interdependence?
One species relying on another for food, shelter ect.
What is a stable community?
A community where all of the species and enviromental factors are in balance so population sizes remain fairly constant
What is an abiotic factor?
A non-living influence on a community
What abiotuc factors can affect a community?
Light intensity, temperature, moisture levels, soil pH, wind, gas levels
What biotic factors can affect a community?
Availibility of food, new predators arriving, new pathogens, species outcompeting others
What are adaptations?
Features that enable an organism to survive in the conditions in which they normally live
What is biodiversity?
The variety of all the different species of organisms on
earth, or within an ecosystem
Why does deforestation occur?
To provide land for farming and to grow crops for biofuels
