define ecological succession?
A
describes changes that take place within an ecosystem overtime.

what is primary succession?
A
a lifeless community becomes colonised by progressively more stable communities of living species.
the soil is nutrient poor and incapable of sustaining life, hence, a pioneer species is introduced and can convert the rock into soil overtime.

what is secondary succession?
A
occurs when plants and animals recolonise a habitat after a major disturbance such as flood, wildfire and landslides. It begins in an area that already has soil and does not take as long to occur as primary succession.
