Eco Flashcards
1
Q
Ecological succession
A
The change in the organisms that occupy an area. A lifeless area is made more habitable by microorganisms, and then new organisms grow in this new environment, where they compete with each other.
Organisms replace other organisms.
2
Q
Primary recession
A
The colonization of an area, initially inhabited only by prokaryotes and protists, by lichens and mosses that grow from windblown spores that then decompose and produce soil for grasses, shrubs, and trees to grow.
