initial management of eclampsia ?

A
  1. make sure scene is safe
  2. call for help
  3. put them into lateral recovery position and tilt 15 degrees
  4. 100% oxygen via non-rebreather
  5. IV line, take BP
  6. take preeclampsia bloods: FBC, renal and liver profile, coag, LDH

what is first line to control seizures in eclampsia ?

A

IV magnesium sulfate (do not give diazepam or other anti-epileptics)
- Iv mag sulfate causes vasodilation and flushing warn the mother

A
  1. IV labetalol and hydralazine (if post seizure)
  2. oral labetalol, nifedipine, and alpha-methyldopa (if not yet seized)

WCC <4 or >17 *10

  1. take: blood (FBC, CRP, ESR) and blood cultures,
    - lactate,
    - urine output
  2. give
    - antibiotics
    - oxygen
    fluids
  3. give 3rd generation cephalosporin for pyelonephritis
