ECG Flashcards
What is an ECG?
An electrocardiogram
What is the normal speed for an ECG?
25mm/sec
What is the size of each big square?
0.2sec
What is the size of each small square?
0.04sec
How do you calculate heart rate?
divide 300 by the number of heart beats
Where do you place chest leads?
V1 - Right sternal edge, 4th intercostal V2 - Left sternal edge, 4th intercostal V3 - Half way between V2 and V4 V4 - 5th intercostal space, mid clavicular line V5 - Anterior axillary line V6 - Mid axillary line
What are the signs of bundle branch block on an ECG
Prolonged QRS >0.12sec
WiLLiaM - Left bundle branch block W shape in V1 and M shape in V6
MaRRoW - Right Bundle branch block M shape in V6 and M shape in V1
What does the P-wave represent?
Atrial depolarisation
What does the QRS complex represent?
Ventricular depolarisation
What does the T wave represent?
Ventricular repolarisation
Why do you not see any Atrial repolarisation?
It is hidden in the QRS complex.
When is ventricular systole?
Q-T interval
When are the two heart sounds made?
Lub - QRS
Dub - T wave
What can cause low voltage QRS?
Hypothyroidism
COPD
In posterior MI what would you see and on what leads?
ST depression in V1 V2 and V3
