Ecclesiastes Flashcards
The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king
in Jerusalem.
1
I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee
with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also
[is] vanity.
2
To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to
every purpose under the heaven:
3
So I returned, and considered all the oppressions
that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of [such as
were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side
of their oppressors [there was] power; but they had no
comforter.
4
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of
fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
5
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun,
and it [is] common among men:
6
A good name [is] better than precious ointment; and
the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
7
Who [is] as the wise [man?] and who knoweth the
interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face
to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
8
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare
all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are
in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred
[by] all [that is] before them.
9
Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to
send forth a stinking savour: [so doth] a little folly him that
is in reputation for wisdom [and] honour.
10
Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find
it after many days.
11
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy
youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
