EBV and CMV Flashcards
What is a chronic lytic infection? and what are the types?
Ongoing shedding of virus that does not immediately result in lysis of the cell
Focal and Diffuse!!
Ex) Hepatitis c….can progress into liver disease
Describe DIFFERENT between chronic and latent virus is:
It is when there be viral nucleic acid, but cannot produces whole virus…
CH
What type cells does EBV lie latent in? and CMV?
EBV enters B cells by attaching to the CD21 receptor types
What type of cells does CMV reside in?
all types– macrophages, epithelials=
How is EBV normally diagnosed?
MONOSPOT TEST!!!
smear– a typical lymphocytes
HETEROPHILE ANTIBODIES (does not fully confirm)
EBV specific antibodies and VIRAL CAPSID PROTEIN
Is there a vaccine against EBV?
NO!!
What are EBV associated illnesses?
Hairy Leukoplakia and Burkitts Lymphoma (mature b cell0 cd 15 and 30, not 45)
How does EBV establish latency in B cells? In what DNA form? And what is the down stream effect?
As episomal DNA –> LATENT CELLS OVERPRODUCED IL-10 and cause hyperproliferation
What will typically be seen on a smear for cytomagelovirus?
GIANT OWL EYES CELLS
How and where does CMV maintain latency?
In many cell types, alter mhc1 not recognized by cg8 cells
cmv clinical presentation?
blueberry muffin spots (not cmv specific), no het. igs.
In AIDS PATIENTS: retinitis, colitis, diarrhea
WHAT IS THE BEST TREATMENT FOR CMV?
GAN and VALGAN- cyclovir are somewhat effective in retinitis and pnuemonia
There is no vaccine
